Past RI Director Ryoichi Takeyama dies


 
 

Ryoichi Takeyama, who served on the Rotary International Board of Directors in 1997-99, died on 10 October.

Takeyama, of Sapporo, Japan, joined the Rotary Club of Sapporo-South, Hokkaido, in 1956. In addition to serving on the RI Board, he was governor of District 2510 and a member of the World Fellowship Activities Task Force and the Japan-Korea Goodwill Conference Committee, among others.

Takeyama was president of Takeyama Shokuhin Company Ltd., a food manufacturing firm. He served as executive director of the Japan Food Hygiene Association and the National Seasoning Process Cooperative. He was also vice president of the Hokkaido Food Hygiene Association.

The emperor of Japan awarded Takeyama the Ranju-Hosho (Blue Ribbon Medal) for his service to Japan's food industry. He was a recipient of The Rotary Foundation's Citation for Meritorious Service.

Funeral services will be held on 22 October at 1 p.m. at Sapporo Park Hotel, 1-1 Nishi Chome, Minami 10 Jo, Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. He is survived by his wife, Takako; his son Hiroshi and daughter Misato Ohta; and his grandchildren.
